This is why we switch to English!

It’s one of the last beautiful autumn days in the year 2020. The window of the Open Source Container has been opened wide and Reza Athar has just received a trembling thumbs up. It’s that same hand that pressed the “Start Streaming” button moments later. And that was it. The first Open Source Radio livestream. In the meantime we’ve hosted for 18 months, a liberal 1120 radio shows, over 400 different artists, four showcases, one never-to-be-forgotten 48-hour marathon and reached thousands of music and art lovers in the Netherlands and beyond. It’s hard to comprehend how fast things actually went.

Since the start of our platform we have been communicating in Dutch. This choice did not appear out of thin air: because we value (local) talent and want to emit that we are an approachable organisation that finds success in collaboration, we chose a main language that facilitated that best. We did realise that this was temporary; because we want to offer a safe and inspiring place to a broad crowd that is not limited to one language, inclusive undertaking is one of the core values of our organisation. Whilst we use Dutch as our main language, we’re hard to understand for those who do not master the language. That’s why we’ve decided to change our main language to the most inclusive language known to man: English. With this transition we ensure that we are as inclusive as possible and host a place where even more genres, cultures and disciplines will meet. From this moment on all updates on our website, all our social media outings and everything else you could think of will be in English.

At the same time we’d like to take a moment to address the enormous success we’ve had last year. We’re so grateful to be able to host a place where people can come together and inspire each other (and us!), especially in the current time. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. Do you questions, ideas or would you like to contribute to the development of Open Source Radio in some other way? Then send an e-mail to info@opensourceradio.nl.. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

—————————————————————————————————–
